January 1, 2010 Hi, everyone, Happy New Year. Shooting, card playing, golfing, fishing, joke telling and fun continues here at the Silver Dollar in Odessa, Florida. Check out Silver Dollar’s website at http://silverdollartrap.com. The club is now open seven days a week! Now that’s an opportunity to shoot some clay targets. A big thank you goes to Katie Miller for the dynamic job she has done with the website. Great job, Katie! Thanks to club manager Bill Miller and all the staff for the super job they do. Hats off to Jay and Lee Brokaw. (You may remember meeting Jay on my blog a few years ago when he began shooting clay birds here at the “Dollar.”) Jay and Lee will be opening the Skeeter’s Grill at the Silver Dollar Shooter’s Club beginning January 1, 2010. There is a whole new menu to be unveiled! I can tell you this—and you heard it here first—there are going to be fresh, fresh foods, real food and the finest bread ever! You know what a health nut I am—and I’m truly excited to see the Brokaws open this! If you’re coming to the Dixie or Southern Grand, you’re in for a treat for your eating enjoyment. Watch the Silver Dollar website for the new menu. And this just in . . .on New Year’s Day there will be collard greens and black-eyed peas, compliments of Skeeter’s Grill! Collard greens and black-eyed peas are what the South eats on the first day of the year. If ya’ have ‘em, you’re guaranteed to have a great year ahead. That’s the truth, y’all! Hope to see lots of you come visit the Dollar! Terry Heeg Happy New Year!

August 8, 2009 Competition is heating up and so are the
temps, but ATA shooters are usually prepared for all types of weather.
ATAers continue to come in the Main Event Center to register to shoot at the
110th Grand American.
Michael gave an energetic talk and signed autographs
for the fans. As a special treat, he passed out tickets to each AIM
participant, then a drawing was held, pulling four names. These four
lucky youth were to compete in a turkey shoot over at the Cowboy Action
venue here at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex. The names drawn and
announced were: AJ Dauck (Arkansas), Jerett Zeigler (Tennessee), Dylan
Warner (Arkansas) and Robby Wahlerink (Illinois). So off they went to
see who would win Remingtons new 887. Each shot one round, then Remington’s
Shane Naylor (Trapshooting’s go-to guy) announced: “You’re all winners!”
Each young man received a Remington 887—the new pump action shotgun.
The boys were as surprised as ever. Thanks, Remington, for all you do for
our sport! Results from Friday’s John Deere Handicap: Sub-junior Jacob Dunn (Maryville, TN) walloped the lone 100 from 20 yards and was champion over the field. Nine 99s went to the line to settle the trophy placements for second through eight. They were as follows, consecutively: Leo Harrison III (New London, MO), Gerald Demulling (New Richmond, WI), Steven Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL), Charles Oberling (Quincy, IL), Denis Bringelson (New Raymer, CO), Mike Walters (Columbus, IN) and Larry Ellis (Evansville, IN). Congrats to all the winners on Friday. Hey, ATA members, take someone new to try trapshooting so they can see how fun it is. Volunteer, get involved. Let’s keep our sport alive and well for future generations.

Congrats to 17-year-old Erica (Manchester, Tenn.) who won lady champion with 97 from 20. She’s a member of the Coffee Co. Clay Busters. She’ll be shooting in the AIM program this weekend. May 23, 2009 The Great Lakes Grand competition continues. The Singles Class race is being contested today. ATA shooters are here from all over the country. On Wednesday Paul Shaw, Mark Zauhar and Larry Dow blasted 100s in the singles and ended winner, runnerup and AAA, respectively. Dick Musetti borrowed Tom Nowak’s Kriieghoff (again) and blasted 98 from 27 to win the day’s handicap. Bryan Hull did it again—knocked down 99 in doubles to earn the top award in the twins. I asked Bryan his secret to shooting so well, and he said he got a Precision Gold trigger about a year ago and could tell a difference in his game. On Thursday in the Keith Heeg Handicap, long yarder Leo Harrision turned in 99 for the winner’s trophy. Keith Heeg himself carded 98 from the back fence for runnerup honors. Sub-junior Jackson Eubanks from Kentucky smashed 97 from 18 yards in Friday’s handicap to earn to top prize over the field. Alex Koella also blasted 97 from 27 to take the Junior award. So far in the first 9 events for the trophies settled and posted at this time, Debbie Ohye-Neilson has won all the Womens’ laurels. Wow, Debbie, great shooting! The weather is perfect today—and no wind. Come on up to Michigan and shoot some ATA targets! Terry Heeg (terry@trapandfield.com)

May 20, 2009 Hi, everyone, I’m at the 22nd Annual Great Lakes Grand American here in Mason, Michigan. Yesterday was an exciting opening day. Congratulations to Canada’s Paul Shaw—he won the first event with a perfect 100 in the 16s. Debbie Ohye-Neilson of New Jersey earned ladies’ category laurels in all three events, and Zack Nannini of California collected all of the junior awards for the day. Jackson Eubanks (Kentucky) won the singles sub-junior trophy, and brother Johnathan won sub-junior honors in the handicap and doubles. Kansan Bryan Hull took the top spot in the twins race with 196. Sixteen-year-old Bryan just won out-of-state champ in the Missouri State Doubles Championship. Good shooting, everyone! Weather is perfect here—it’s warm and sunny. There’s a bit of a breeze, but that will cool you off and keep the game interesting. I hope you can make it. It’s one of the best gun clubs to shoot ATA.
